In fairness, Jason Statham is one of the few truly bankable action stars working today - evidenced by the fact that every single one of his films has had a theatrical release, and he's never starred in a movie made for streaming.
Yet in an ironic twist, his new Die Hard knock-off Mutiny ended up having an unintended early streaming release just two days before its theatrical bow, when Amazon accidentally leaked the film in full.
The leak remained online for several hours before being removed, by which point it was already widely circulated online.
And so, it wasn't remotely surprising that the film grossed just $29 million against its $40 million budget, making it The Stath's lowest-grossing release since 2015's little-seen Wild Card.
While piracy doesn't affect all movies the same way, a mid-budget Jason Statham actioner with mediocre reviews probably wasn't done any favours by such a high-profile leak, ensuring Lionsgate was simply left bracing for the predictably dire box office.
