Despite rocking one hell of a stacked cast - including Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Nolte, and Halle Berry - Crime 101 was dumped in cinemas this past February as though Amazon and Sony were genuinely embarrassed by it.

Even with the talented Bart Layton (The Imposter, American Animals) directing from acclaimed source material, Crime 101's iffy release date and late embargo suggested a dud in the making, only for the film to land a firm 88% on the Tomatometer.

It wasn't helped by a few lacklustre trailers and a boring title that, while borrowed from Don Winslow's source novel, didn't exactly rouse much interest from moviegoers.

With a sizable $90 million budget, all involved likely saw the writing on the wall and so didn't even bother trying to make it a hit. And so, Crime 101 unsurprisingly topped out at a disastrous $72.9 million globally.
