Renfield Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

Nic Cage fans will probably get JUST enough out of this.

The moment Nicolas Cage fans have been waiting for is finally, finally here - the release of his avidly anticipated horror-comedy Renfield.

The phrase "Nicolas Cage as Count Dracula" was surely enough to sell the Internet on the idea of Chris McKay's new film, which while failing to fully live up to the brilliance of Cage's casting and general performance, is serviceable entertainment for those craving an undemanding, moderately fun night at the movies.

To be clear, don't expect miracles from this thing, because it's got flaws-a-plenty and is frankly all over the place.

But if you're up for a dumb, gory time that gets you in and out in barely 90 minutes, there are far worse things you could watch right now. For one, you could watch the Super Mario Bros. Movie.

If a smarter and more creative film was clearly possible, Renfield still delivers enough easy laughs and goopy action - not to mention the aforementioned Cage performance - to not be too much of a disappointment.

But it's certainly not great, and with that in mind, here's where Renfield stumbles most...
