Rise Of Skywalker: 13 Visual Dictionary Revelations That Change EVERYTHING

9. Poe's Backstory As A Spice Runner

Disney really had no idea what Poe was going to be, and annoyingly we watched the fantastic Oscar Isaac ping-pong between "one hell of a pilot!", to being a hotheaded "flyboy" who can't follow orders, to having his backstory overhauled to be a "Spice Runner".

Spice has long been an established thing in the canon (it's Star Wars all-encompassing term for "illicit substances" or drugs), and in RoS, Zorii Bliss points out that Poe has a history on Kijimi as a smuggler.

To elaborate, the Dictionary points out that Poe spent five years as a Runner with Zorii on Kajimi, essentially recontextualising he and Bliss' relationship, and giving more weight to the First Order officer's coin she sacrifices so Poe can save Chewie.

It's pointed out that Poe joined the New Republic to be a pilot seven years before the Starkiller Base incident, which ostensibly frees up a huge amount of time - being he's 32 in Force Awakens - to go on tons of adventures either as a Runner or pilot, in the wider fiction.
