One of the best-known and more infamous theories surrounding the Star Wars universe has always concerned the Galactic Empire; even though they blown up planets and dress like Nazis, many fans believe that the big bads of the Star Wars franchise aren't actually shown to be acting all that evilly, save for the selfish actions of a few bad eggs (namely the Emperor and his stooge, Grand Moff Tarkin).

It's a legitimate and genuinely interesting argument, especially when you consider all the evidence presented across Episodes IV, V and VI, and one that die-hard fans have spent years and years feverishly debating.

What Rogue One could - and probably will - offer up, however, is a more detailed look at the "Evil" Empire than ever before - one that will enrich our understanding of this supposedly malicious, totalitarian force. After all, the policies and goals of the Empire haven't really been explored in a lot of detail across the seven films that exist so far, and Rogue One looks poised to shed some well-needed light on the matter.

Good? Evil? Both? It's going to be endlessly fascinating to see how the Empire is depicted during the events of Rogue One - and no doubt exploring the subject will enrich our collective understanding of the Star Wars universe.
