Has the drama died down yet over
the casting of pint-sized Tom Cruise as the burly 65 and 250 pounds super killing machine Jack Reacher in a movie adaptation of Lee Child's thriller
One Shot, yet? I watched in astonishment last month as dozens of fans
pissed and moaned in the comments to our article about the hiring of the Cruisemeister in the leading role, which may I add, was a casting choice
completely endorsed by the author himself, who really would be the right person to kick up a fuss if he wasn't happy. The whole situation reminds of me Cruise's casting as Lestat in Interview with the Vampire (which wasn't endorsed by author Anne Rice at the time... but she did a complete turn-a-round when she saw the final film, and would then tell us she never wanted anyone else to ever play the part!) and why others can't see that he will capture the spirit of why Reacher via his intensity is beyond me. Watch Collateral. Watch the plane scene in Knight & Day. Watch all the Mission: Impossible franchise films and how well he can play precise and mechanical killing machines. Cruise will make this franchise his own and we are in store for some fantastic movies from writer/director
Chris McQuarrie (The Way of the Gun) as Paramount see this as a new Jason Bourne-esque series for them. One Shot won't be like the book and you gonna have to let that go and just enjoy the ride. Anyway no matter how much complaining has gone on, there isn't much they can do about it now. The film is casting and moving forward towards production.

Former Bond girl
Rosamund Pike was
secured today for the love interest role, beating out Captain America's
Hayley Atwell and Clash of the Titans'
Alexa Davalos who were the final contenders for the part. Ironically, Pike last year replaced the more inexperienced Davalos as Andromeda in the Clash of the Titans sequel because Warner Bros wanted a more accomplished actress in a newly revamped role... so I guess by now she isn't particularly on Davalos' Christmas card list. One Shot thrusts ex-military cop turned nomad drifted Reacher into the case of a military sniper who is accused of committing five murders and as our lead delves deeper into the investigation, he finds corruption and cover-ups are at every corner. Pike plays Helen Rodin, a defence attorney who defends the man accused of the killings and who works with Reacher to bring the real culprits to justice. The film is set to be produced by Don Granger and Cruise, through Mutual Film Company and C/W Productions. Joining production are Skydances David Ellison and Dana Goldberg along with Gary Levinsohn and Paula Wagner. We are banking on Cruise making the Reacher character his own. Cruise will make the movie before work on
Joseph Kosinskis Oblivion begins at Universal in January.
