Russell Brand & Danny Boyle To Make Football Film?

Whatever one may think of Russell Brand, he is plainly not a stupid man. Having clearly discerned the exact moment that the public in the UK had had their fill of his €œbisexual Fagin€ persona, off he flew to the United States, betrothed to whatever passes for a pop star in the 2st Century, and setting about playing the €œBritish guy€ in a succession of poorly written- but profoundly remunerative- Hollywood films. His most recent transgressions coming in the soon to be released remake of Dudley Moore€™s Arthur and- even more galling- a soon to be remade version of the cult Rik Mayall film, Drop Dead Fred. As part of this transatlantic rebirth, Brand seems keen to associate closely with the great and the good of contemporary mainstream cinema and it appears that our good friends at News International have used this propensity for professional schmoozing as the bedrock of one of their many thoroughly sourced and researched stories. For when Brand was said to have been seen talking to 127 Hours director Danny Boyle, a €œsource€ was found willing to issue the following quote:
"Russell told Danny what a fan of his work he is, Danny admitted he's a fan of Russell's stand-up and they talked about working together€€They'd love to make a film about football. Danny's secret wish is to film 365 Days In The Life Of Bury FC (sic). Russ loved that."
So, yes, on the basis of this source, expect a film sometime soon from the award winning director and the stand up in his mid-thirties about the lower league football club. Two years ago, in an interview aside, Boyle suggested to Empire he would like to pursue a film about his boyhood football team as part of a retirement project. One would imagine- should it actually come to fruition- that it might be just that. Russell Brand's Arthur-directed by Jason Winer- opens world-wide in April.
