Pro: Skyfall Was Awesome. Don't Change The Formula
After
Quantum of Solace failed to deliver for both fans and critics, there was a lot of pressure on
Skyfall to bring Bond back in a big way. Needless to say, it did. Expanding on the deeper character exploration started in
Casino Royale, the 23rd Bond film also had classic bits of humor, stunning action sequences, and one of the best Bond villains in recent memory. Largely earning the consensus of "best Bond movie ever," it's wise for EON and Sony to keep the current team intact. Screenwriter John Logan, who helped pen the
Skyfall screenplay, is working on the
Bond 24 script (solo this time). He and Mendes understand these characters and (hopefully) know what to do with them - particularly new additions like Ralph Fiennes's M, Naomie Harris's Moneypenny, and Ben Whishaw's Q - as they continue the series. With Mendes back in the fold, it's very possible he'll also bring along frequent Mendes collaborators composer Thomas Newman and director of photography Roger Deakins. The music and cinematography of
Skyfall were highly regarded, so fans would most likely be open seeing them return. Having such a talented group behind the camera will allow the producers to entice respected actors to sign on. After convincing Oscar winner Javier Bardem to play Silva, who knows what other thespians Mendes could rope in to play a villain or the Bond girl (that is an article for another day). With the
Skyfall team returning, it will help give the franchise some continuity and stability as Mendes & Co. look for the best way to bring Craig's tenure to a close. Let's just hope
Skyfall wasn't lightning in a bottle and they continue to produce memorable films.
