4. Annie Porter - Speed (1994)
I would be remised if I didn't mention the high-octane thriller Speed. Starring Keanu Reeves, Jeff Daniels and our leading lady Sandra Bullock, Speed is easily one of the most enjoyable Bullock movies. The premise of the movie is entirely absurd, but completely enthralling. The villain, brilliant played by Dennis Hopper, is an ex-cop with nothing to lose, and a master of explosives and civilian terrorism. He seems to take a creepy liking to Keanu Reeves, a police officer for the LAPD, and sets him up to disarm a bomb that is strapped to a the bottom of a bus. The catch? Once the bus reaches 50 mph, the bomb is armed - and if the bus drops below 50, an explosive is triggered. Keanu must rush to catch the bus, which, through a strange series of events, ends up being driven by - you guessed it - Sandra Bullock. Bullock is a true heroine in this film. She is selfless and determined and not afraid to help Keanu out throughout the movie. She is the liaison to the people on the bus and isn't afraid to speak for them. This is one of the few times when watching a female "damsel in distress" isn't annoying (I'm looking at you, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom).
