1. Leigh Anne Tuohy - The Blind Side (2009)
I used to think that Sandra Bullock played the same character in every movie. I used to think that she always played a stuck up b*tch, or a hard-ass cop, or a racist, or a frumpy awkward leading lady. I still think some of these things, but after watching The Blind side, I changed my perspective for the most part. Bullock pulls off a genuinely moving performance in this film. Although the movie has received a significant amount of flack for being "too Hollywood" (particularly by Michael Oher himself), Sandra makes the whole thing work. Her portrayal of the overbearing football mom that is affected by a homeless boy is wonderful. Bullock took home the Oscar for her work in The Blind Side, and although many disagree with the choice (any of the other actresses that year would have been a fine decision), I was truly impressed with the seemingly transformed Sandra Bullock. The film, admittedly, is a little preachy: Bullock's character seems almost unflawed. Her children are idealistic and don't make mistakes and even the darker moments of the film seem glossed over. However, it is Sandra's outstanding performance as the overbearing matriarch that makes the film worth watching (and makes it work). I agree with the Academy in their decision to give her an Oscar: Sandra Bullock's best performance to date. Now for those that weren't so awesome....
