Sausage Party Review: 5 Ups And 5 Downs

3. Few Of The Characters Are Explored Fully

Douche is a character whose depth goes as far as him name, but he's not alone in being undernourished; Barry aside, there's not really any characters with all that identifiable personalities. Most riff on the most basic facet of their foodstuffs for most of the gags, and never really even try to make a stand beyond that. Even Frank, Seth Rogen's protagonist, is a straight down-the-line schlub whose internal conflict is inorganically forced into the story halfway through.

It gets particularly problematic in the final act where it's clear we're meant to have been 100% genuinely invested in some of these characters, but know next to nothing about them; Sammy Bagel Jr's farewell is a flat as a pita bread.
