20 TERRIFYING Scenes In Non Horror Movies

On paper Mission: Impossible is probably the last franchise you'd expect to diverge into horror at any point, but the globe-trotting spy blockbuster series served up one hell of a disturbing death scene in its third installment.

At one point, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) races to rescue one of his protégés, Lindsey Farris (Keri Russell), from the villainous arms dealer Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman).

And though he does retrieve Lindsey, he soon discovers that Davian has placed an explosive pellet inside her head, forcing him to try and deactivate it with a defibrillator.

However, before Ethan can get it done, the pellet suddenly detonates, instantly killing her. 

With this being a PG-13 movie we're of course not going to see anything graphically gory, but director J.J. Abrams actually does one better by simply showing how instantly Lindsey is killed.

The "thwip" of the pellet explosion is followed by a slight jolt, all while one of Lindsey's eyes is forced into a disturbing upwards position.
