10. The Baby On The Ceiling - Trainspotting
One of the few film that can hold a candle to Requiem for a Dream's uncompromising depiction of addiction is Danny Boyle's Trainspotting, which so perfectly encapsulates how a heroin habit entirely consumes the user.
At one point, Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) and fellow user Allison (Susan Vidler) discover that their infant daughter Dawn has died from neglect as a result of their single-minded commitment to drug use.
The sight of the poor baby's lifeless body is devastating enough, but Boyle of course doesn't stop there.
When Renton (Ewan McGregor) is locked in his bedroom by his parents and forced to go through withdrawal, he has a nightmare of baby Dawn's corpse crawling on his ceiling, before it drops off the ceiling onto him, much to his terror.
It's a testament to the overall execution that, as ridiculous as the animatronic baby looks, its uncanny appearance and movements really only make the scene that much more frightening.
