20 TERRIFYING Scenes In Non Horror Movies

15. Large Marge - Pee-wee's Big Adventure

Pee-wee's Big Adventure
Warner Bros.

Pee-wee Herman (Paul Reubens) has always creeped out his fair share of kids, but when Tim Burton of all people was hired to direct the character's big-screen debut Pee-wee's Big Adventure, of course he was going to sneak in some skin-crawling imagery.

As Pee-wee hitchhikes to Texas, he takes a ride from Large Marge (Alice Nunn), a burly trucker who regales Pee-wee with the tale of a horrific car accident she witnessed on this very road a decade prior.

When describing what the driver's corpse looked like when it was recovered, Marge turns to Pee-wee and suddenly transforms into a claymation monstrosity, complete with bulging eyes, before returning to her regular self.

As jumpscares in films made for children go, this is pretty much unbeatable, and it gets all the creepier when we later learn that the victim of the accident was actually Large Marge herself, and Pee-wee actually took a ride from a ghost.
