Sean Bean: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
3. Alec Trevelyan - Goldeneye (1995)
Perhaps not as suave as 007, Bean's 006 was more than Bond's match, fooling the spy into giving him his trust, all the while plotting against Britain. Even up to his faked death he has Bond on the hook, and in the 9 years that follows Trevelyan sets up his Janus criminal syndicate with ultimate aim of robbing the Bank of England using the Goldeneye satellite, destroying Britain's economy. A grand plan and one that certainly doesn't feel like too much for Bean - as all good villains will know, composure is key and he has that in abundance. Lurking just below that calm facade is a criminal mastermind willing to put a whole country into crisis (let's ignore his two missed chances to kill of Bond) and his pragmatism contrasts perfectly with Brosnan's typical dry one liners. These lines are executed with trademark coolness, his quick wit showing Bean is so much more than a one-dimensional, by the book villain. What an unforgettable death he has also. Not everyone could survive a 500ft drop, although Trevelyan's soon put out of his misery as the rest of the satellite explodes and crushes him in the process.
