Sean Bean: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Boromir - The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring (2001)

Another man of nobility troubled by the need for power and control, Bean encapsulates what the son of a steward of Gondor should be, shining along with the other fantastic performances that his compatriots in the Fellowship provide, winning them an award for the Best Ensemble Acting courtesy of the Phoenix Film critics. Bean gets Boromir's deterioration to near madness at the hands of the temptation of the One Ring just right, his actions never coming from a point of true evil, just his desire to protect his own borders. Despite ultimately trying to take the Ring from Frodo, he performs considerable acts of valour, where Bean's prowess as an action star in battle scenes is on point again, his death at the hands of numerous orc arrows and following remorse at what he tried to do, are some of the most memorable and moving scenes of the trilogy. Yet another role that you just couldn't imagine anyone else playing, his trademark long hair and unshaven look combined with a burdened yet honourable character is as natural a role as Bean will ever play.
