Sherlock Holmes 3: Everything You Need To Know

4. It Could Lead To Even More Holmes Movies In Future

In late 2016, Variety revealed that Warner Bros and Team Downey (a production company founded by the actor and his wife) had put together a writers room to map out Sherlock Holmes 3.

The room was led by Nicole Perlman (Guardians Of the Galaxy, Detective Pikachu) and included Gary Whitta (Rogue One, The Book Of Eli), Justin Malen (Office Christmas Party, Father Figures), Kieran Fitzgerald (Snowden, The Homesman) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider, Captain Marvel).

Rooms like this are usually built for franchises, TV shows and cinematic universes, not standalone films, so this does make you wonder if Warner Bros has even bigger plans for Sherlock Holmes than we might realise.

This particular room is a curious mix of talent, from comedy writers in Malen to those who specialize in drama, like Fitzgerald. It seems like quite a hodgepodge recipe for just one movie, so maybe the plan was to map out numerous sequels and possibly even spinoffs. At this stage, we don't know.

Or if the room was just focused on the one sequel, and Brancato is writing his script based on their story treatment, this is going to be one hell of an interesting movie.

In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
