2. The Surprise Cliffhanger Ending - Hell House LLC: Lineage
The marketing for Hell House LLC: Lineage sold it to fans as the big, climactic entry into the beloved found footage franchise, while largely ignoring the fact it ditched the found footage style for a more conventional narrative aesthetic.
But the style wasn't really the issue with Lineage - it's that the film doesn't feel like a finale at all.
Though this, the fifth film in the series, brings back the third film's protagonist Vanessa Shepard (Elizabeth Vermilyea) to try and end the central curse once and for all, the film ends with it still very much in play.
More than this, the ending also reveals that Vanessa's twin brother Mitchell, who supposedly died in childbirth, is very much alive - a twist that's abruptly dropped in the audience's lap moments before the end credits roll.
While it's hardly uncommon for horror franchise to continue on past their "final" chapter, it takes a special amount of gall to straight-up market a movie as the final one only for it to end on a cliffhanger. Baffling.
