17. The Rage Virus Can Be Treated - 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

Considering that the 28 Days Later franchise hasn't really talked much about the prospect of a cure or treatment for the Rage virus, it was genuinely surprising to see the matter broached in the recent fourth film, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.

Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) discovers that he's able to treat the Rage-afflicted Alpha known as Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry), administering a mixture of antipsychotics and other drugs which diminish the hallucinations the Rage virus causes.

In turn, this calms Samson and even allows him to speak some basic vocabulary, suggesting that while the prospect of a cure remains firmly up in the air, in the very least it can be treated for a time, allowing an infected person to regain some semblance of their humanity.

Few could've seen this coming back when the first film was released, though it'll certainly be interesting to see what direction this subplot takes in the planned sequel - assuming it still gets made after The Bone Temple's box office underperformance, of course.
