Slender Man Review: 2 Ups & 7 Downs

7. The Dull, Unlikeable Protagonists

Slender Man Joey King

It certainly helps the audiences root for the protagonists if they're remotely likeable or interesting, but Slender Man falls at this first hurdle almost immediately.

The opening 60 seconds of the movie introduces us to the four young women who are eventually terrorised by the titular entity, but their inane teen chit-chat instantly makes them more grating than sympathetic.

It doesn't help that the most capable actress of the quartet is the first to be taken by Slender Man within the opening15 minutes of the film, and though the actresses are certainly trying, they're helpless battling against such wretched writing and direction.

Because of their irritating screen presence and some of the questionable decisions they make, you may well end up rooting for Slender Man to take them down by act three.
