Spectre: 23 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

15. SPECTRE's Base

The base in the meteorite crater mimics the crater facility in You Only Live Twice. The Alpine sequence also feels like a nod back to a former SPECTRE base. It feels supiciously like it is being used to remind the audience of Blofeld's "Piz Gloria" base from On Her Majesty's Secret Service. More generally, the geography of the film is full of nods back to other Bond films. It shares four locations with The Living Daylights - Tangiers, Morocco, London and Austria - as well as returning Bond to Mexico and Italy. Even more specifically, the hotel that Bond climbs to the roof from in the opening sequence is the same hotel used for the mirror sequence in Licence To Kill (a key idea in the film) in which Bond attempts to kill Franz Sanchez.
