Spectre: 8 Things Sam Mendes Doesn't Want You To Know

1. 007 May Be Facing Retirement

With MI6 at risk from C and the MI5 merger, there are serious negative implications for James Bond's future as a spy in Spectre. According to leaked info, it's a very real possibility that the 007 code name is - along with M - about to become obsolete.

It's something that's referenced in both the leaked script and the CinemaCon footage (during their talk, Moneypenny tells Bond that he's "finished"), so this one's confirmed. It makes sense for the character following Skyfall, which positioned Bond as a man out of time.

The difference in Spectre is that Bond being up to his old tricks in the opening Mexico City-set sequence is exactly what's got him in trouble (as opposed to him being washed-up and considered, for all intents and purposes, too old for this s**t in Skyfall). Whether or not 007 is retired by the end of Spectre depends on how that last act is worked out - don't count on one of the most successful franchises of all time taking its lead character out that way, though.
