Spider-Man: 15 Actors Who Almost Played Major Roles
5. Asa Butterfield
The race for a young Peter Parker heated up before Tom Holland backflipped himself into the lycra suit. Everyone from The Walking Dead's Chandler Riggs to Boardwalk Empire's Charlie Plummer were in contention. The final few came down to the likes of Holland and Hugo's Asa Butterfield.
Having recently turned 18 when the shortlist for Parker was announced, Butterfield was seemingly perfect for the role, while we were reliably informed that any part as Spider-Man wouldn't conflict with his shooting for Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Butterfield was reportedly "locked in" as "new" Spider-Man, with some new outlets going as far as publishing the news. It is unclear whether contractual negotiations broke down or he pulled himself out of the running, but we eventually ended up with Holland.
