Spider-Man: 7 Reasons To Be Worried About Venom & Black Cat Spin-Offs
4. Silver Sable?!
If you're making a spin-off of Spider-Man, there are several "popular" supporting characters you should look to first, in order to establish confidence in your fledgling brand. Venom was the right move. Black Cat was arguably less strong, but not as bad.
The others you'd immediately consider would be Miles Morales, Kraven The Hunter, Carnage (probably in a versus movie with Venom)... Anyone with a story that can exist without Spidey, but crucially also characters that are recognisable to at least some mainstream audiences. That is, after all, the key to making more than $500m at the box office.
Going more obscure with Silver Sable - who most none Spider-Man fans will not be aware of even slightly - is a gamble when gambling should be reserved for the second phase. She does not inspire confidence on her own, which robs the film of a strong foundation to push off.
