4. The Female Characters Are Substantial

Like blockbuster films as a whole, Marvel movies are still generally quite lacking when it comes to substantial parts for women, but Homecoming has in fact been praised in this department.

Firstly, Zendaya's Michelle has earned significant acclaim, apparently proving to be an unconventional love interest for Peter Parker, and pretty much confirming that Laura Harrier's Liz Allan is not Peter's actual romantic pairing as the trailers suggest. Whether Michelle is actually Mary Jane, though, is still being kept under wraps.

Then there's Marisa Tomei's Aunt May, who has barely even figured at all in the movie's marketing, which seemed to imply she was there for a cameo appearance at best.

However, it's been confirmed that she does actually have a sizable part, though fingers are crossed that it doesn't just result in her being predictably kidnapped by Vulture.
