10. Tony Stark's Role

As previously mentioned, one of the concerns about the movie was the amount Tony Stark seemed to be in it. After all, Robert Downey Jr. costs the big bucks, so you've got to get your money's worth, and the trailers featured him prominently.

That, however, seems to have been a marketing ploy more than a true reflection of his role in the film. According to most reviews, it is a supporting role and he's not overused, but fits in quite naturally. Proving himself to Stark and wanting to become an Avenger is a driving force for Peter in the movie, which means Stark is largely absent.

/Film note he "does his best to stay out of the proceedings until absolutely necessary." Empire adds: "Robert Downey Jr. literally phones in most of his performance, but in the best possible way."

Indeed, many reviews comment on the fact that this borders on neglect, with Collider writing more negatively on the matter, saying:

"Tony has always been one of the more nefarious personalities of the MCU, but Homecoming really piles it on... Tony’s response [to Vulture] is that Toomes is too small-time for The Avengers but too big for Spidey... Tony is the epitome of what Peter should never be - great power with no responsibility... Thankfully, [he] isn’t around too much to sour up the joint"
