Spider-Man: Homecoming Vs Spider-Man 2 - Which Is Better?
9. The Villain
Alfred Molina did an absolutely fantastic job making Doc Ock both terrifying and sympathetic in Spider-Man 2, if perhaps a little on the familiar side because, yes, he's the oh-so-typical well-meaning scientist who is turned wayward by his own creation and, of course, sacrifices himself in a grand act of redemption.
Homecoming's main baddie is the Vulture, played with restrained relish by the brilliant Michael Keaton. One of the best things about his villain is that his economic motivation is easy to relate to and doesn't require lazy sentiment. Also, he doesn't have a redemptive sob story, and the twist with him being Liz's father was superbly executed, especially that awkward car ride.
Winner: Molina and Keaton both did exemplary work here, so this is really tough, but Doc Ock just feels so much more statuesque and entertaining as a villain, whereas Vulture is undermined a little by Homecoming's general lack of emotion.
