Spider-Man Movies: 7 Perfect Performances & 7 That Sucked
5. James Franco - Harry Osborn
James Franco is not a bad actor by any means: he's proven himself capable of a broad spectrum of performances over very different parts in the past few years, but he wasn't right for Harry Osborn.
In Raimi's Spider-Man, Harry is a smarmy douchebag who never does anything to justify the idea of a nice guy like Peter Parker having any sort of affection for him, let alone them being best friends. He talks through a smirk and while he gets better as the films go on, his transformation into the second Goblin feels like a shark-jump and a messy addition to an already too-busy movie.
At this point in his career, Franco struggled with empathetic performances and that's a key missing ingredient in his Harry.
