One of the main complaints levelled at the MCU's Spider-Man movies is that Spidey receives a ton of help from other Avengers. People say he felt like "Iron Man junior" with all the Stark tech he was given in his early outings, and now, it looks like Doctor Strange is going to be the one to bail him out of a sticky situation.

To put it another way, some fans want to see a truly independent Spider-Man, more akin to the Garfield and Maguire movies - hopefully without the weird dancing.

One way this could be achieved is by reinstating the character's pre-Civil War anonymity. Perhaps there's a scene at the end of the film where Spidey and Strange return from their multiverse adventure to give the identity spell another go, and Strange decides to give Peter a proper fresh start. As a result, everyone in the world forgets he's Spider-Man, including Pepper, Happy, MJ, Aunt May, and Ned.

We know this is possible - in fact, Strange is performing this very spell, before Peter messes it up - so it wouldn't be a shocker if that's how the movie ends.

Plus, by stripping Spidey of his MCU ties, it will make it easier for Sony to take back the character and plonk him in the Venom-verse, if that's what they decide to do. With Holland's MCU contract nearing its end, that day could be here quite soon.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
