Spider-Man: No Way Home - 8 Best Fan Theories After The Trailer

1. Uncle Ben Makes His MCU Debut

Uncle Ben
Marvel Comics

When it was announced that Spidey was set to join the MCU, few people were clamouring for yet another cinematic re-do of Uncle Ben's death. We'd already seen that storyline play out in the Garfield and Maguire movies, so it just felt unnecessary to do it for the third time in 15 years.

Thankfully, Marvel and Sony agreed, opting to relegate Ben's death to a subtle mention in Spider-Man: Homecoming. As a result, the character has never been seen onscreen in the Holland era, but an awesome fan theory predicts that might be about to change.

Another Reddit post that went supersonic shortly after the trailer dropped speculated that a particular moment from the Spider-Man comics might be copied in No Way Home. This moment sees Peter receiving a birthday gift off Doctor Strange - a gift that allows him to spend five more minutes with his dead Uncle Ben.

Just imagine this playing out in No Way Home: Strange feels guilty for all the craziness that happens in the movie, so he gives Peter a "five more minutes" present. Peter chooses to spend those minutes with Uncle Ben, and the filmmakers bring in a powerhouse actor to play the role in this one-and-done scene.

Sure, there's nothing in the trailer that directly supports this theory (besides the presence of Strange and his magic), but on paper, it sounds like it could work beautifully. There wouldn't be a single dry eye in the cinema!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
