Star Trek: 10 Best 'I'm Dead And I Know It' Moments

1. Lieutenant Shax - No Small Parts

The season finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks shocked the audience with the surprise death of Lieutenant Shax, the Bajoran Chief of Security aboard the USS Cerritos. As he had been one of the most upbeat characters in the show overall, it was truly unexpected for him to go out on the Pakled Ship. However, the way in which he goes out is one of the best moments of the series.

Shax lives for action, adventure, and combat. He and Rutherford have to travel to an attacking Pakled ship to upload a computer virus, in the form of Badgey, one of the most devastating villains in Star Trek history.

There is a catch. Badgey is self-aware, and truly hates his creator - Rutherford. He makes a Kobayashi Maru deal with the ensign. He'll set the Pakled ship to self-destruct, but on the condition that Rutherford stays on board.

Shax is having none of it. He is elated to finally have a chance to experience the thrill of the fight, so he rips off Rutherford's implant, keeping Badgey aboard. He saves the ensign, then goes out like an absolute boss, holding a Pakled soldier in a headlock as they all go together. Knowing Shax the way that the audience came to know him, this was the perfect ending to this character.
