Bar Shatner, George Takei, Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols are the last surviving members of the Original Series cast. In this fourth film, while it might not be possible to include all three or even two of them, having a spot open for even one to make a cameo appearance would be a fabulous send-off for the show.

Nichelle Nichols is arguably the most attractive of the three in terms of having her appear, as the impact that she has made on both Science-Fiction and Television, in general, is immeasurable. She was an acting trailblazer for Black women and girls in the sixties during the Civil Rights movement, and an icon in more ways than one. However, as Nichols is unwell with dementia, she is sadly the least likely of the three to return.

Walter Koenig would be a very interesting actor to have return, as it would be easy to create a story that features an older Chekov addressing the fate of his younger self in this timeline. There would have to be a bit of creative legerdemain here, yet in the world of Star Trek, far stranger things have happened.

By far the most likely actor to return would be George Takei. Not only is he very active in the media at this time, yet he has kept the torch lit for Star Trek for decades. It would also be quite something if, somehow, the writers managed to get Takei and Shatner to appear together.

At the moment, the film is totally up in the air, so any or none of the above could happen. There will be many theories flying around for the next two years - let's see how close we get.
