Star Trek: Every Starfleet Starship Class Ranked Worst To Best

48. Springfield

Star Trek Springfield Class
CBS Media Ventures

The Springfield class USS Chekov was lost at Wolf 359, though it was not named on-screen. It was in fact re-dubbed in the released episode. Commander Shelby speaks the name 'Tolstoy' rather than Chekov, as it was deemed that this reference to Pavel was too 'cute'.

The Springfield class was a 'kitbash' ship, containing elements of the Galaxy class ship as well. There were two variations of the ships - one with a lower secondary hull and one without, though both variations had the same warp nacelles - based on commercially available highlighters!

Although it was a distinctive design, it did not see general service after this, perhaps as the design proved too ineffective against the rising threats to Starfleet.
