Star Trek: First Contact - 5 Things That Worked And 5 That Didn't

4. Data

Data Star Trek There's really nothing to single out about Data in this movie that one couldn't single out in the entire run of TNG - and that's largely due to the excellent portrayal by Brent Spiner. In today's era television shows, even sci-fi ones, get much more acclaim and respect then they did when TNG was on. Much like Leonard Nimoy before him with Spock, Spiner made a non-human character the most human with his incredible acting abilities. It's a shame he never received even at least an Emmy nod. The movies strived to make Data more human first by reintroducing the emotion chip in Generations, and then taking it a step further by having the Borg queen seduce him figuratively and literally with actual human skin being grafted onto his exoskeleton. Still, in the end, Data rejects what he always desired to maintain his loyalty to Captain Picard and the Enterprise crew - once again showing that being human is more in one's actions than physical design.
