Star Wars: 10 Starfighters We Never Got To See

8. X-TIE Fighter

X Tie Fighter
Lucasfilm

This type of fighter was another of the Uglies, a cannibalized and cobbled together fleet of vessels. This means that, at least for the time being, the ship only exists in the comics. Lando Calrissian recognized this at once on seeing one of these, warning Luke Skywalker that the Corellians were almost certainly responsible for its construction. In fact, one of these vessels was used as a first means of escape after the fall of the Empire, just before the Correllian Crisis.

The ship bore the central section of a standard X-Wing starfighter, with the solar panels of a TIE-fighter subbing in for the wings. Twin lasers cannons took the spot that would normally be employed for proton torpedoes, just on the insides of the arms of each wing. Like a regular X-Wing, the ship required one pilot and one Astromech droid.

These were another class of Ugly that had little defensive or offensive potential. Though slightly better armed than the TYE-Wing, they were easily outflanked and destroyed by even a single standard starfighter.

Therefore, these vessels were most often found in groups, supporting pirate convoys.
