Each year, Forbes magazine publishes a tongue-in-cheek list of the richest characters in fiction. Santa Claus traditionally topped the list until Forbes received negative feedback from readers claiming Santa Claus should be treated as real. Other fixtures on the list include Bruce Wayne, Lucius Malfoy, and Scrooge McDuck.

In 2008, Jabba the Hutt made the Forbes cut as one of the 15 richest fictional characters with a worth of $8.4 billion, above Ebenezer Scrooge and below 1980s yuppie icon Gordon Gekko.

His wealth stems from extortion, gunrunning, and the Kessel spice trade, along with his cosying up to the Imperial government and cultivating a reputation for having anyone who crosses him ruthlessly murdered. His assets include his palace and the luxurious sailbarge, the Khetanna.

Jabba was off the list in 2009 on the grounds he was dead. Had he avoided Princess Leia's vengeful death grip, he would have been sandwiched between Jed Clampett and Tony Stark.
