7. Mads Mikkelsen And Felicity Jones' Characters Revealed
While Rogue One has a very talented ensemble cast, the two most exciting names are Mads Mikkelsen and Felicity Jones. The former is great in pretty much everything, while the latter was fantastic in last year's The Theory of Everything and is destined for big things. Now, thanks to
Making Star Wars, we have an idea of just who they'll be playing in the movie:
"Mads Mikkelsen (Galen appears to be his name in the film) is kind of the key to the film in a way. He is a scientist that took over the Geonosian Death Star project. He solved several of the flaws the Empire could not and is sort of a revered person in the Empire for his contributions. The guilt Galen feels for his contributions to the Empire become too much and he defects, attempting to make things right. In order to do this, he enlists the help of his only daughter. "Felicity Jones character has to undo the devastation her family has unleashed onto the galaxy. Early versions of this character had her as a bounty hunter type of mercenary. But with the familial connections it appears as if this idea might not interface with the final stuff for the character so Im hesitant to say shes a bounty hunter/mercenary type in the final iterations of the film. I believe she is probably a scientist-type herself in character of the mission to get the plans, aided by bounty hunters, in this final iteration."
Rating: 8/10 Obviously we're a long way off the film being released, so any such character details have to be taken with a large pinch of salt, but these do fit with what we know of the story, while you could definitely imagine Mikkelsen and Jones playing these roles well. Perhaps it's for that reason that I'm not 10% convinced by this. Then again, Star Wars is all about family. However, I think it'd be a good route to go down having Jones be front-and-centre of leading the actual effort to steal the plans, and positioning her as a scientist doesn't necessarily scream that, whereas it would if she were more along the bounty hunter line.
