Star Wars Episode 8: 10 Predictions You Need To Know
4. Benicio Del Toro Is Playing Ezra Bridger
"I'm like the villain, but we'll see" - that's all Benicio del Toro, or anyone, has revealed about his character in Star Wars: Episode VIII. This level of secrecy is par for the course with major movies these days, but perhaps there's something more to it this time: maybe del Toro is playing a character we already know, and Lucasfilm want to keep that information under their giant collective hat.
The top contender in the online rumour mill is Ezra Bridger, the young Force-sensitive protagonist of Star Wars Rebels. He's trained in the Jedi arts by Kanan Jarrus, but Darth Maul regularly attempts to lure him onto a darker path. Maybe Maul succeeds at some point, Ezra becomes a villain and he just so happens to grow up to look like Benicio del Torro.
As with the Rebels nods in Rogue One, this would be a surefire way to garner discussion about the animated show and draw in some new viewers. It would also give Rebels some major material to tie in with. But why was Ezra nowhere to be seen in The Force Awakens if he's still knocking around? Um... the galaxy is a big place?
