Star Wars Episode 9: Everything We Know So Far

Mark Hamill has played coy so far about the return of Luke for Episode IX. Although the character died in The Last Jedi, there's obviously precedent for fallen Jedi to return as Force Ghosts, something Hamill has addressed a few times. Back in March he said that he'd come back if asked and it was up to J.J. Abrams, but then, speaking to Games Rader back in April, he said:

"Luke’s story is told. What more can I do? ... what happened with Luke [in The Last Jedi], I said ‘Ok, that’s the next link’ when I was still thinking I’ll come back as a Force ghost. And then to lose Carrie in real life, I said ‘That’s it’. They say you can never go home again, and that for me was the real indication that it’s time to move on.”

A month later, however, the actor - who is well known for teasing fans on social media - offered a hint that he might be back after all, tweeting an image of Luke saying 'See you around, kid" with the caption "#foreshadowing".

Luke's arc did come to a fitting end in The Last Jedi, with the hero helping to save the day and inspire hope, before getting to look out at the twin sunset one last time. However, there's certainly scope for him to come back as a Force Ghost to either Rey or Kylo Ren (or both) as well, and seeing him again would be a thrill.
