4. Poe As An Established General
The end of Last Jedi saw Leia beginning to step out of the way to allow Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron to take control. With Leia gone in one way or another, count on Poe having been the established General of the Resistance for some time by the time Episode IX opens.
Poe learned some valuable lessons the hard way in the previous film about the differences between being a hero and a leader, so to see these lessons pay off in full and have him be a more cautious and calculated leader in Episode IX would be very fulfilling. This whole arc would also have immense emotional value, thanks to the fact that Leia taught him just about everything he knows, so it would be a great way to honor that character and Carrie herself.
