Star Wars: Episode VIII - 8 Things That Definitely Shouldn't Happen
6. Han Solo Returning In Anything Other Than A Brief Dream Sequence
Han Solo is dead. Episode VIII, at all costs, needs to keep it that way. The problem, of course, are all those infernal rumours about Harrison Ford stepping back into the shoes of the franchise's most popular character for the next instalment. Ford hasn't been officially cast, and he isn't listed on the IMDb as filming the movie as of this moment, and yet there have been a few hints doing the rounds which suggest that Han Solo has a place in the picture - the most convincing of which had producer Kathleen Kennedy outright saying that Ford was set to return to the film (albeit this was before The Force Awakens was released), and a call sheet from which listed Ford as a cast member. Should Han Solo find his way into Episode VIII's narrative body, then, there have to be limits. You can't kill off a character like Han Solo and later reveal him to be alive in any capacity, so the character has to be dead; anything else is just toying with people's emotions. Next, he should only return if it's in a dream sequence - any other attempts to bring him back would feel forced or false, not to mention ludicrous (a big no-no). Even if he came back as some kind of apparition or Force ghost, it wouldn't ring true; he wasn't a Jedi. In all seriousness, it'd probably be safer to not have Ford in the picture at all, don't you think?
