Star Wars: Ranking All The Movie Endings From Worst To Best
4. Episode IV: A New Hope
The original Star Wars movie remains one of the most important moments in cinematic history and its cultural significance and influence cannot be understated. A New Hope is also, to this day, one of the best Star Wars movies of the lot. However, its dramatic conclusion only makes it to No. 4 on this list.
Why? Well, simply put, the conclusions of the other three Star Wars movies to come are simply that bit better. That's no knock on the final moments of A New Hope, however, which are still historic for all the right reasons.
The final attack on the Death Star has lost none of its power and the moment when Luke uses the Force and manages to shoot accurately and blow up the Empire base is a genuine 'punch the air' moment. The climactic ceremony in which Princess Leia awards Luke, Han and Chewbacca medals for their bravery is a bit cheesy upon reflection but it's a happy ending which works well in the context of the film. Every Star Wars movie which followed had to live up to the strength of this film and try to top the drama of its conclusion.
