Star Wars: The Force Awakens Final Trailer - 10 Major Things We Learnt

4. The Old Guard Are Legends

"It's true. All of it. The Dark Side, the Jedi. They're real." Rey tells Han that there have been stories, and he confirms the truth of them. What this means is that 30-odd years on from the events of Return Of The Jedi, the exploits of Luke, Han, Leia et al have become the stuff of legend. Now that is interesting. It was a huge war, full of dramatic events, but now the key elements are being framed as if they are mere myth. Given that it seems to be explained to both Rey and Finn, the excuse can't just be the fact she's living on a scavenger planet in a far-flung corner of the galaxy. Someone has tried to quash talk of the Force and the Jedi, or at least knowledge of it has died out, which fits with Luke being the last remaining one (for now). Perhaps it's a cover-up to protect any potential Force-sensitive characters, or it was the Imperial remnant who have regained control and spread their own history of events. Another point to consider with this is the fact that Kylo Ren (and his fellow Knights) all worship Darth Vader. This despite the fact that he turned his back on the Dark Side, and actually killed the Emperor. Guessing that story didn't get out then.
