Star Wars: The Force Awakens Vs The Last Jedi - Which Is Better?
9. New Characters
The Force Awakens introduced a generation of fans to a cast of new and - for the most part - loveable characters. Rey, Finn, Poe and BB-8 might not compare with Luke, Leia, Han and R2-D2, but those characters have been with us for decades. Considering how popular the oldies are, the newbies managed to gel with them rather effortlessly, proving interesting and likeable and even a tad iconic.
The Last Jedi struggles with its new characters in all the ways that The Force Awakens never did, however, throwing out the least memorable newbies since... well, has any Star Wars movie to date ever given us less exciting characters?
Rose, the latest addition to the gang, is both annoying and incoherent - we're never really sure what her personality is supposed to be because she's all over the place. There's also DJ, the lisp-addled conman who will surely go down in Star Wars history as the most pointless addition to the franchise. Then we have Admiral Holdo, who might have been interesting but never feels fleshed out enough to win us over.
Winner: The Force Awakens takes this one with relative ease. The new characters in The Last Jedi are a mixed bag at best, and not one of them is particularly likeable. DJ might be worse than Jar Jar Binks, you know. Seriously.
