8. Snoke Is Boba Fett (Or Darth Vader)

The Theory

Since he was first revealed before The Force Awakens even came out, the question of Snoke's real identity has been one of the most hotly discussed topics in modern Star Wars fandom. Because there's no way he could possibly just be Snoke, obviously.

The most popular theories tend to suggest he's a returning character from the original trilogy - Vader, Kenobi (he did promise to become more powerful than anyone could possibly imagine), Palpatine, Plagueis or even Boba Fett. Some of those names would be more obvious than others (the Plagueis theorists are some of the loudest), but the idea that he's a vengeful Fett would be as big a reveal as him being a somehow surviving (or revived) Darth Vader.

The Boba Fett reveal would be up there as pretty profound, and the revelation that Vader somehow lives (in some form) would be huge (even if it would take considerable writing to suggest why he'd turn back to the Dark Side again). It's still debatable if any of that outdoes the Empire twist, though.
