Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 10 Predictions For The Biggest Ever Twist

7. Rey Is The Mother Reborn

The Theory

While everyone seems intent on offering their take on which existing Star Wars characters are Rey's parents, there's a distinct possibility that no-one is. Anakin Skywalker didn't have a father (allegedly), so there's some precedent for immaculate conception with the Force, and some have suggested Rey could simply be the Chosen One reincarnated.

More interesting is the idea that Rey is actually an older identity reborn - and why not The Mother herself, who sought to bring balance to the Force by controlling her warring Son and Daughter (the Dark and Light embodied). That might help explain why Rey was abandoned (a tactical decision based on her value to either side) and why she's so irresistibly drawn to Luke Skywalker, who we now know wants to establish order within the Force by seemingly ending the Force.

Imagine the scenario that sees Rey revealed to be The Mother, and then being influenced by Luke to transform into Abeloth (her evil evolution, in effect) who would require the Jedi and the Sith to work together to bring down. That's world-changing stuff.

Would It Be Shocking Enough?

It would have huge ramifications - particularly if Rey followed The Mother's arc to become Abeloth (especially if it was at Luke's prompting to "restore balance to the Force"). With so many theories out there about who Rey came from, the idea of her being a Force entity in living flesh would be a big swerve too, and if she brings an end to the imbalance in the Force, then this would rank as a major, major revelation.
