Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 8 Fan Theories That Make Appalling Sense
6. Luke Is The Last Jedi
The Theory
There's some debate over who the titular Last Jedi is. It appears to be Luke, if The Force Awakens is anything to go off, but isn't Rey about to undergo Force training?
One popular theory doing the rounds on the internet argues that Rey will not be a Jedi when she completes her training, but the first in a new line of Forces users who combine elements of light and darkness.
The Evidence
Luke is literally referred to as 'the Last Jedi' in the Force Awakening's opening crawl, so there's no debating that's what he is when the new movie picks up.
As for Rey becoming a new breed of Force user that sits between the Jedi and the Dark Side, this harks back to that scene in Episode III when Palpatine urged Anakin to have a “larger view of the Force” because the “dogmatic” Jedi code is restrictive.
Sure, he's evil as hell, but what if the Emperor was talking sense? Is the black and white view of good and evil that Jedi vs. Sith presents not outdated yet?
This theory was also born out of The Last Jedi trailer, in which Luke tells Rey that's there's "more" to the Force than just the light and the dark.
Perhaps Vader was supposed to bring balance to the Force by becoming the first Jedi to embrace the Dark Side and position himself at a grey midpoint on the spectrum?
