Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Every Deleted Scene Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Caretaker Village Sequence
One of the longest scenes Johnson chose to axe, this sequence shows Luke essentially trolling Rey by leading her to believe the Caretaker village is under attack.
But sure enough, there's no danger; all that fire and noise was just the village having a massive party. Rey doesn't react too kindly to this prank, and her and Luke end up arguing shortly after.
If you mentally place this entire sequence within the movie, it's easy to become conflicted about its inclusion.
On the one hand, it may have been smart to leave the Rey/Luke argument in, and you could even argue that it was necessary to leave it in. Rey does turn on Luke a little quickly in the final cut, so this extra bit of tension between them would have sold that conflict even more.
However, this is a long sequence, and putting it in the movie in full would've just dragged the pacing down. If there was a quicker way for Johnson to get Rey and Luke to that argument point, he should've done that, though that's an issue with writing, not editing.
