Suicide Squad: 10 Major New Details You Need To Know About The Ayer Cut
2. A Scrapped Role For Steppenwolf And Apokolips
It didn't take long for Warner Bros. to basically give up on the idea of the DC Extended Universe being a shared world, but there were once plans in place for Suicide Squad to lead directly into Justice League.
"Enchantress was under the control of a mother box and [Steppenwolf] was prepping an invasion with a boom tube," Ayer explains. However, it sounds like those Justice League reshoots or the fact the studio started having cold feet about there being a "Justice League: Part Two) led to it being removed as the filmmaker, "Had to lose that [when] the [Justice League] story arcs evolved."
Instead, there was no mention of the Mother Boxes, and rather than being Paredemons, the monsters Task Force X battled were nondescript, alien-type baddies. As for Enchantress' brother, he was meant to be Steppenwolf as "[he] was the original boss fight."
After likely defeating the team, Steppenwolf would have then escaped with the Mother Box and set off after the Justice League, potentially even opening the door to a crossover with the Suicide Squad. Say what you will about Ayer's vision, but it's hard not to be excited about what might have been.
