Suicide Squad: 11 Key Influences You'll See In Jared Leto's Joker
3. Batman Beyond
The fact that nobody has yet made a Batman Beyond movie is one of the greatest injustices faced by fans of animated comic book shows. Yes, there have been two separate times when it's almost happened (as an alternative to Batman Begins and as a follow-up to Nolan's trilogy), but it's never got off the ground. But, it does appear that there is something of the show's villain in Leto's version of the Joker. The near-future big bad sports the same slick-backed hair and dark nail varnish sported by Leto, and while that might not be compelling enough evidence for some, the fact that there were rumours in 2013 of a Batman Beyond film rebooting Nolan's timeline suggests that there may be something of the character in Leto's version. Indeed, as comicbookThat certainly indicates that people in the know at Warners are aware of Batman Beyond, and when they were looking for a visually distinct-but-recognizable older Joker, it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch that this could be something that informed their decision. In any event, Suicide Squad is shooting now and will be in theaters in August 2016. Batman Beyond just got a new comic book series as part of DC Comics' new DC You publishing initiative, and the first issue is on the stands this week.
